This Federal period demilune console table arrived at our workshop requiring French polish restoration. The table’s elegant half-moon form, delicate tapered legs, and fine mahogany veneers represent the refined aesthetic of the American Federal period, drawing on the neoclassical designs of Hepplewhite and Sheraton.

Our conservators carefully prepared the mahogany veneer surfaces, addressing any lifting or damage before beginning the French polish process. Shellac was applied in successive thin layers using the traditional pad method, gradually building the deep, glass-like finish that is the hallmark of fine Federal furniture.

The completed French polish brings out the mahogany’s rich colour and figure, creating the luminous depth that distinguished the finest Federal-era pieces. This demilune console now presents the understated elegance and refined proportions that define the American Federal style at its most accomplished.
