Period Armchair Repair · New York, NY

This carved Georgian armchair arrived at our workshop requiring extensive structural repair and partial rebuild. The chair’s finely carved details — acanthus leaves, scrollwork, and shaped splat — reflect the refined taste of the Georgian period, but years of use had left the frame with broken joints and fractured carved elements.

Our craftsmen disassembled the chair and addressed each structural failure, re-gluing joints with hide glue and fabricating replacement sections for irreparably damaged carved components. Each new element was hand-carved to match the original design, using the same species of wood and carving techniques employed by Georgian-era chairmakers.

The rebuilt chair was finished to blend the new work seamlessly with the original, preserving the warm patina of age while ensuring the chair can once again bear weight with confidence. This Georgian armchair restoration demonstrates our commitment to preserving the craft traditions of England’s great furniture-making era.
