Brownstone Door — Restoration & Refinishing
This brownstone entrance door, a hallmark of New York’s 19th century residential architecture, arrived at our workshop with weather damage, peeling finish, and deteriorated panel joints. Brownstone doors endure extreme seasonal conditions while serving as the defining architectural element of these beloved townhouses.
Our restorers stripped the door to bare wood, repaired split panels and worn mortise-and-tenon joints, and addressed areas of rot with carefully matched Dutchman patches. The moulding profiles were restored where damaged, maintaining the door’s original Victorian-era character and proportions.
A marine-grade exterior finish was applied in multiple coats, providing lasting protection against New York’s harsh weather while enhancing the wood’s natural warmth. The restored brownstone door once again serves as a dignified entrance worthy of the historic townhouse it protects.
