This Art Deco gilt ottoman required both structural restoration and complete reupholstery. The carved wood frame featured decorative gilding that had worn and chipped over decades, while the upholstery had deteriorated beyond salvage.

Our gilders carefully repaired damaged areas of the carved frame before applying new gold leaf using water gilding techniques consistent with the Art Deco period. The gilded surfaces were then toned and burnished to achieve the warm lustre appropriate to the piece’s era, blending seamlessly with surviving original gilding.

The ottoman was reupholstered with a luxurious fabric that complements the gilt frame’s opulent character. The padding was rebuilt to restore the original cushion profile, creating a piece that captures the glamour and decorative exuberance of the Art Deco movement while serving as a fully functional furnishing.
